{"id":2675,"date":"2016-09-30T17:29:44","date_gmt":"2016-09-30T17:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ojen2.turnbull.co\/?page_id=2675"},"modified":"2024-03-27T12:29:20","modified_gmt":"2024-03-27T16:29:20","slug":"hux-kiteley-award","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ojen2024.turnbull.co\/en\/about\/ojen-awards\/hux-kiteley-award","title":{"rendered":"Hux-Kiteley Exemplary Justice Educator Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This award was named after two of the members of OJEN\u2019s original Board of Directors: Allan Hux, who represented Ontario History and Social Science Teachers\u2019 Association, and Justice Fran Kiteley, who was the Superior Court of Justice representative and the first Chair of OJEN\u2019s Board of Directors. The Board of Directors established this award in 2011 to honour the foundational role they played in the establishment of OJEN.<\/p>\r\n<p>The Hux-Kiteley award recognizes an educator in the province of Ontario who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the area of justice education. The criteria may include:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Innovation in justice education<\/li>\r\n<li>Collaborative approaches to teaching about legal issues<\/li>\r\n<li>Promotion of democratic participation<\/li>\r\n<li>Leadership among peers in promoting justice education<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>The recipient of the Hux-Kiteley award is honoured at OJEN\u2019s Summer Law Institute reception each August.<\/p>\r\n<p>To nominate someone, please obtain a minimum of <b>two nominating letters<\/b> that outline the ways in which the nominee has met the award\u2019s criteria. <b>Strong<\/b> nominations include multiple nomination letters from individuals representing both the education and legal sectors who have knowledge of the nominee&#8217;s work. We also encourage letters or emails from current or previous students who can speak to the nominee\u2019s impact as an educator.
