{"id":22851,"date":"2022-04-07T14:13:53","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T18:13:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ojen.ca\/?p=22851"},"modified":"2022-04-07T14:16:46","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T18:16:46","slug":"jfcy-classroom-workshops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ojen2024.turnbull.co\/en\/jfcy-classroom-workshops","title":{"rendered":"Classroom workshops from Justice for Children &#038; Youth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We\u2019re excited to share new opportunities for your classroom\u2019s learning and inclusivity efforts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our friends from the <strong>Childhood Arrivals Support and Advocacy (CASA) program<\/strong> at<a href=\"https:\/\/jfcy.org\/en\/\"> <strong>Justice for Children and Youth legal clinic (JFCY)<\/strong><\/a> are providing services for students who arrived in Canada as children but are living here without immigration status (often known by the term \u2018Dreamers\u2019 in the US).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CASA provides free and confidential legal support and guidance in&nbsp; navigating systems and safely accessing services. CASA outreaches through its high school <strong>classroom workshops <\/strong>that are engaging and of interest to all students, but include information for youth facing immigration precarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CASA workshops are <strong>free<\/strong>, <strong>curriculum-linked, require no preparation by teachers, and are beneficial to your whole class. <\/strong>Through discussion and critical thinking activities, they explore themes of migration, citizenship, belonging, personal agency, and rights. They fit well in courses such as Grade 9 Geography, Grade 10 Civics, and Grade 10 Career Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CASA can also craft workshops for senior high school students, as well as teachers, guidance counsellors, school administrators, and school boards on CASA\u2019s work and the barriers faced by young people in Canada without immigration status.
