They use scenarios and role-play to introduce youth (ages 12-29) to criminal law, courtroom procedures, androles in the criminal justice system. They encourage discussion and reflection among participants while giving an overview of the criminal trial process.\u00a0 Workshops are facilitated by justice sector volunteers (lawyers, judges, paralegals, etc.). who can answer legal questions and dispel common myths about the Canadian criminal justice system.<\/p>\n<h2>Program goals:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Build knowledge<\/strong> about criminal law and the criminal trial process;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Develop and practice legal life skills<\/strong> like issue-spotting, sequencing, critical thinking, and effective communication; and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Address misconceptions about the law and the justice system<\/strong> through dialogue and positive interactions with justice sector professionals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Justice 101 workshops are\u00a0 appropriate for most youth groups, including after-school programs, homework clubs, youth leadership programs, and classrooms.
