The workshop series uses experiential learning to address common legal issues they may face.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of 3-5 sessions, lawyers work with young parents to build legal life skills (advocacy, public speaking, organization, and communication).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Family Law for Young Mothers: Challenge and Change <\/strong>builds on the Family Law for Young Parents (FLYP) program. This 6 &#8211; 8 session program uses an interactive, dialogue-based approach that offers youth participants a deeper engagement with family law and legal professionals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program goals:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Build knowledge<\/strong> and <strong>awareness<\/strong> of family law procedure and process;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Develop and practice legal life skills<\/strong> to navigate family\u00a0 law-related issues;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Introduce youth to reliable sources of public legal information<\/strong>, and the legal and community-based supports available;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make connections between youth and justice sector professionals<\/strong> to build respect, empathy, and understanding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cChallenge and Change\u201d culminates with young mothers proposing recommendations\u00a0 to legal professionals about how they could better help young mothers address their legal needs and challenges.<\/p>\n<p>This program was first piloted in Hamilton in 2020-2021 with support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to offer one of these programs to your group of young parents, fill out our <a href=\"\/en\/get-involved\/request-a-project\/\">online form<\/a> or send an email to <a href=\"mailto:programs@ojen.ca\">programs@ojen.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","area-of-law":[],"audience":[],"program_type":[152],"class_list":["post-5285","program","type-program","status-publish","hentry","program_type-community"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Family law for young parents - OJEN<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"noindex, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Family law for young parents - OJEN\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"The Family Law for Young Parents (FLYP) program empowers young parents by equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to handle legal challenges confidently.
