Braiding Diversity into Justice

For many young people, a career in law may feel out of their reach. Braiding Diversity into Justice and other OJEN career modelling programs help young people of all backgrounds “see themselves in law” by introducing them to legal professionals with whom they share similar experiences. The goal of these programs is to show that there is a place for everyone in the legal profession.

Braiding Diversity into Justice began as an initiative of the Waterloo OJEN Committee in 2018. It was designed as a single-day, in-person event, however it can be modified for remote delivery and the time can be adjusted as required. In the Waterloo context, registration has historically been open to youth who identify as women between the ages of 16 and 20 who are interested in pursuing a career in justice. The program can be adapted for any audience depending on the needs and interests of youth in your community.

The program showcases a variety of legal professionals, emphasizing the different careers in justice and the non-linear pathways to reach them.
