Encouraging youth from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in law, helps to make the legal system more reflective of the people it serves.
Each year, OJEN creates paid positions, for-credit internships and practicums for high school and post-secondary students. Students from a wide range of programs and institutions find opportunities here to get their feet wet with real-world work experience. We offer them a supportive environment and meaningful employment.
Elementary Civil Mock Trial program is an interactive and fun way for students in grade 5 to learn about the law. Children as young as 9 years old get hands-on lessons in perspective taking, limits to free speech, roles in the courtroom and how the law affects our lives, while preparing for the defamation trial of Wendy Witch v. Hansel & Gretel.
Pregnant teens living in group homes or on their own face challenges that have profound impact on their own and their baby’s lives. OJEN’s Family Law for Young Parents (FLYP) program helps them gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage the legal aspects of their lives.
OJEN’s experiential justice education programs for youth provide a powerful way to bring law to life. Mock trial programs – whether school-based competitive tournaments or community-based experiential activities – give young people the opportunity to learn about legal issues in a hands-on way.
